Foundation Programme
The Foundation Programme (FP) is hosted on:
Regular Saturday mornings from 8.00am - 12.15pm at
Tushita Buddhist Centre in Rondebosch
It is best to attend the weekly drop-in classes for a while before considering whether to join Foundation Programme. It is possible to join at any time throughout the course.
There are many benefits to studying on the FP, some of which include:
- We gain great confidence in meditation and its practice in daily life.
- We have the opportunity to study Buddhism closely with a qualified teacher.
- We have the regular support of fellow practitioners.
About the Programme
The purpose of the Foundation Programme is to provide a systematic presentation of particular subjects of Mahayana Buddhism to enable practitioners to deepen their knowledge and experience of Buddhism.
The Programme comprises the following five subjects based on Buddha's Sutra teachings and the corresponding commentaries by
Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso:
1. The Stages of the Path to Enlightenment, based on the commentary Joyful Path of Good Fortune
2. Training the Mind, based on the commentaries Universal Compassion and Eight Steps To Happiness
3. The Heart Sutra, based on the commentary Heart of Wisdom
4. Guide to the Bodhisattva's Way of Life, based on the commentary Meaningful to Behold
5. Types of Mind, based on the commentary Understanding the Mind
We are currently studying Joyful Path of Good Fortune and students enrol for a section at a time. If you would like to find out more about the FP please ask resident teacher, Gen Pagpa, or one of the FP students.
